The Second Payment Services Directive (PSD2) – Changes to International Payment charging options

It has previously been possible to make an international payment within the European Economic Area (EEA) and select who should pay the sending bank’s (i.e. Santander’s) and any foreign bank charges.

These charging options appear in your ‘Create A Payment’ screen as:

‘BEN’ = You pay the Santander fee, and your beneficiary pays the foreign bank charges.

‘OUR’ = You pay the Santander fee, plus the foreign bank charges

Following regulatory changes introduced as part of PSD2, now you will only be able to select the ‘BEN’ charging option.

This applies to payments in any currency within the EEA, even if not in Euros or the currency of an EEA country.

At Santander Corporate Banking we will never send you an email that asks you to verify your security details or link to Internet banking. If you receive an email claiming to be from Santander that you are suspicious about, please forward it to

If you are worried that someone may already have your International Payments security details, then please contact our Helpdesk immediately on 0800 015 4116.
